4-Hour Float, Swim Stop

A four-hour float on the Colorado below Hoover Dam, with round-trip transport from your pickup point, close-up views of the dam from the water, and a stop to swim in Black Canyon.

Overview

This half-day trip pairs a scenic drive from the Las Vegas Strip with a raft outing on the Colorado River, drifting through Black Canyon below Hoover Dam. Pickup happens at the Linq Promenade, and from there an air-conditioned vehicle carries the group out to the launch point. Several travellers singled out the commentary and area facts shared along the drive as a highlight of the ride itself.

Once on the water, the raft passes by Hoover Dam, and travellers get close-up views of the dam from its base. Reviews describe an informative talk on board covering the dam's history and the surrounding scenery. Several travellers also mention getting to take a dip in the river during the outing.

A souvenir pack with a bottle of water, chips, an apple and a cookie is handed out on the raft. Life jackets are provided. The tour runs about 4 hours including travel time and caps at 30 travellers, making it a manageable outing for most fitness levels. Gratuity is not included.

What To Expect From The Tour

A few practical points come up again and again in traveller accounts of this tour.

• Confirm pickup time. Several reviewers reported that the pickup time shown on the booking page did not match the actual pickup. Check with the operator before the day. One driver waited for late guests, but that cannot be counted on.
• Heat and sun. Sunscreen, a hat and light clothing are sensible choices in that heat. Swimming in the river offers a way to cool off.
• It is a float. The listing describes a guided raft tour with Hoover Dam passed by from the water, and reviews describe a history talk on board with close dam views. Expect views and commentary rather than a fast-moving run.
• Food and drink. A souvenir pack with a water bottle, chips, an apple and a cookie is included, and one reviewer noted the driver offered more water on request. Eat a real meal beforehand if you want more than a snack.
• Group feel. The tour allows a maximum of 30 travellers, and reviews describe a relaxed atmosphere with guides who answer questions and share plenty of history. Several said the staff were friendly and accommodating throughout.
• Accessibility. The listing states the tour is wheelchair and pushchair accessible and allows service animals. Most travellers can participate.

Common issues. The pickup time listed on the booking page has at times been wrong, so verify it with the operator directly. The tour requires good weather and a minimum number of travellers; if either condition is not met, you are offered a different date or a full refund. One reviewer described a cancellation caused by a road closure with no explanation given at the time. Cancellations on your side must be made at least 24 hours before start time for a refund. Gratuity is not included, and one reviewer felt the price was high for what the tour delivers.
